Drupal Security Paper update

Last week we published a minor update to the Drupal Security Paper, a report on the state of Drupal security and how it addresses security risks and concerns. We expanded some of the Security Advisory analysis data and made a few minor corrections. If you have not read it, now is a great time to take a few minutes and give it a read.

Ready to dive into Drupal? Fear not, lifeguards are on duty! Savvy instructors from Growing Venture Solutions will help you get Drupal installed on your laptop and instilled in your thinking.

We'll begin by introducing Drupal's foundational concepts, then start building your first Drupal site -- create content, install & configure the right modules, and start managing users. Then, we'll focus on tools to make your site shine -- enrich content with fields and taxonomy, customize URLs to be readable and SEO-friendly, create an events calendar with the powerful Views module, and integrate images in powerful and creative ways.

By the end of this class you'll be ready to build your own Drupal sites, understand and speak the the Drupal lingo, and get involved with the vibrant Drupal community to find more tools and solve bugs and make your site more awesome!

Installing Drupal on your laptop
Diving-in: How to start creating content and basic site architecture
Unleashing the power of Views: Create custom listings of content without writing code.

Training for the National Center for Atmospheric Research

This past January the GVS team provided our "newbie to rockstar" training for a group of almost 20 people from the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

The group consisted of a broad range of skills:

Content producers
Site admins
Web developers
System administrators

After the training we've provided additional support and consulting to help the more advanced users as they navigate the complex world of submitting patches and the drupal.org issue queue.

Drupal Rolls Out at NCAR

The motivation for this training was that NCAR is at the beginning of a large project to migrate from various different kinds of sites to a more integrated, standardized Drupal platform. They are hopeful that this migration will allow them to provide better services, both internally and externally, with reduced development and maintenance costs.

Training - San Jose Library

The San Jose Library manages a variety of websites for San José Public Libraries and San José State University Library. After evaluating several systems, the web team decided to use Drupal for their projects and began working to learn to use Drupal. In order to speed their trip up the Drupal learning curve, they decided to engage Growing Venture Solutions for training.

Greg's training was well-organized, starting with the basic and progressing to the more advanced topics. Greg is extremely knowledgable about every aspect of Drupal. As one of the community's most active members, he has an incredible range of information immediately at his disposal about the system's capabilities and processes. The training was extremely flexible - Greg let us stop and ask questions whenever we wanted, pause for hands-on work, and breeze through issues of less interest to us. Greg is a very friendly trainer, approachable, easy to work with, and amazingly knowledgable. I would recommend him for any institution seeking training on any aspect of Drupal. Though we had three days of training, I wish we had five instead so that we could have gone more in depth into each topic and access Greg's wealth of knowledge!

The Library training was a blend of our standard training curriculum and some customization to fit their needs.

Introduction to Drupal 6.x Classes - Starting September 27th from 9:00AM to Noon

This course is made up of four sessions every Saturday morning for a month. Start the month as a newbie, end it a Drupal rock star. The sessions will cover Drupal 6.x, though most of the content is applicable for 5.x or 6.x.

When: 4 Saturdays from 9AM to Noon starting September 27th.
What to bring: Yourself and your laptop. If you don't have a laptop, let me know when you register and a computer can be provided.
Cost:

Per class - earlybirds pay $45 if you sign up by September 23rd. $60/day for all
registrations after that.
Get all four classes discounted to $150 (save $30 over earlybird price and $90 over the normal price)

Module development and the Drupal API
Performance and scalability best practices

The classes build on each other, but if you feel that you already know the prerequisites and only need one class you can come for just that class.
